How migration affected me and my family

By: Matias Salazar

Moving from a rural area to a big city can be a big change for many families as it was for my family, we really had a hard time when we changed from Oton to Quito the capital of our country but as it was hard it has also given us a lot of advantages that we didn’t have in Oton and that is going to be my main focus on today’s blog so to not lose time let’s start

So first how was our life before we moved, it was very hard we didn’t have access to a proper education or even healthcare if got sick we had to go a to Ibarra where they had hospitals and pharmacies things that we didn’t have in Oton, also my mom didn’t had a job and my dad was in a low-paying job that couldn’t pay for most of the things we needed to even live a decent life, we had to ration the food, the water, the gas, and we even had to use candles  to light up our house if I’m honest the life we had was awful.

Then we moved to the city and things started to change in a very positive way, we moved into a better house that wasn’t big but it had all the commodities we desperately needed as a family of five, also my dad got a better paying job that in consequence it allowed them to put me and my brothers in a better school, but we also felt that we were a little discriminated for being from a rural area so that didn’t feel nice but we were able to manage another big thing that changed for us is that now we were able to go out more often sometimes we went to a restaurant or to a park and that was really great.

As I was telling you in the last paragraph we now have a lot of advantages (Healthcare, education, friends, more opportunities, etc) that we didn’t use to have, but as advantages came we also experienced some disadvantages that we never thought we would have and some of them we found out the hard way like there is a lot of street crime and by a lot I mean it and it is so insecure to the point that the first thing they told us when we arrived was that we shouldn’t go out alone after 6 P.M because most of crimes occurred after that hour, another disadvantage that we didn’t have in the city was the amount of pollution and garbage there is and it gets to a point that is very concerning like you can see the smog in the sky and everywhere you go you can see garbage and graffities in every wall, the last disadvantage that really bothers me the most is the amount of noise the city has it is absurd there’s not a single moment where you cannot hear a car passing by or people yelling or even the sounds of the nearby factories back when we were on Oton there weren’t any noises like never but you know you get kinda used to it.

Now to end as I explained in the last paragraphs living in the city can have its pros and cons I personally believe that living in the city was the best thing that could ever happened to me a my finally we got so many benefits that in Oton we didn’t have but maybe for some other people staying in a rural area is better because of the noise or the pollution and it is fine  but I would really recommend you readers that live in a rural area or a semi-rural area to try to move to the city it doesn’t have to be Quito it can also be Cuenca or even Guayaquil but you should give it a try because it could change your life’s as it did to mine but at the end it is your choice, and that’s all for today’s blog I really hoped you liked it and see you in the next blog.
